Trompe l'eoil ceiling in St. Ingatius Loyola Church

Amazingly, this cupola was never complete so instead Pozzo (the same painter of the ceiling fresco adjoining this) painted a trompe l’eoil tondo (round painting) to look as though it rises skyward. It was quite amazing and took us quite a bit of time before we realized it really was flat! It was painted in the late 17th century at the height of the Italian Baroque.
