The villa is located just beyond the Borghese Gardens and was designed for Pope Julius as a retreat and a place to entertain. One of the designers was Vasari who is the author of one of the best documentary books of the time, “The Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects.” We will be referring to that book in this week’s look at the Renaissance in class.
