Cathedral Steps

San Giorgio Cathedral, 17th century, Modica

This cathedral is rebuilt on top of what was a church built in the 13th century. It’s at the top of 164 steps and reminded us for Lombard Street in San Francisco as it winds down through gardens that hide most of the steps until you reach the top. It is the centerpiece of Modica although the interior seems to be quite shabby in comparison to others. Some of the paintings look like they are literally rotting in the corners and they have netting up to keep stuff from falling on people.
