The central courtyard of the villa has a peristyle (walkway) that goes all the way around. There are a total of 160 (40 on each side) images of domestic and wild animals and the heads face specific directions to indicate which way to walk. These mosaics are intertwined with bird and plant images that can actually be identified by species.
