Portrait busts were introduced by the Romans, where the ancient Greeks idealized their figures and heads (see athlete figure). Our guide suggested that this type of bust was attached to a headless figures (next slide) when that person was coming to town to give a speech. Gives new meaning to the idea of “photo op”.
