Piazza del Archimedes, 1878 with Fountain of Diana

Archimedes was a famous ancient Greek mathematician and physicist (3rd century BCE) who lived in Syracuse though his biggest accomplishment seems to have been inventing such diabolical arms as grappling hooks and such. The fountain is dedicated to Diana who transformed Arethusa into a spring to help her escape the pursuit of Alpheus (more on this when we get to the fountain of Arethusa).
