Earliest of the temples built ca. 520 BCE, had 38 columns (6 on each end and 15 on the sides). Eight on the south side are all that is standing, re-erected in 1923-24 by an Englishman who lived on the premises and devoted himself to restoration of the site. Some traces of fire can be seen and the stucco to simulate marble over the sandstone. Cicero described a beautiful state of Hercules stood inside, hence the name of this temple.
