Greek Theater from top ambulatory

Greek (Roman) theater from top ambulatory

In the 11th century the theater was badly damaged and all but forgotten to the point that houses were built on top of it. Aerial views even in the 1930s show houses in semi-circles matching the shape of the theater. Excavations were done and many of the houses cleared away to reveal the theater but as you can see some houses remain. From the street one has no clue that this beautiful theater lies on the other side.
