Pillbox, Sciacca, remains from World War II invasion of Sicily

Throughout our visit here we’ve seen these pillboxes on hills, in fields, and on the side of the road, a reminder that there was a major battle fought in Sicily commanded by US General Eisenhower and the British General Montgomery. The Canadians also took part and the success in Sicily allowed success in opening up the Mediterranean area for the Allies and resulted in the overthrow of Bennito Mussolini.
