Temple of Portunus

Temple of Portunus

Republican temple by the Tiber River dating from the 2nd century BCE combining Greek and Roman elements. Preserved when turned into a church in the Middle Ages. The round temple that you can see to the right is a perfect example of the Roman use of concrete. This small forum contains structures that date from the Roman era to the Middle Ages that can all be seen from one vantage point.
